Taming Your Tension Headache

Defined Tag:

Tension headaches are quite common today and it's no wonder is the main reason for them is stress.  This type of headache can either be a dull throb or sharp pain and usually shows up on both sides of the head at the same time.  Tension headaches are attributed to stress as well as sensory overexposure such as loud noises and bright lights.

Since tension headaches are triggered by stress the best way to get relief from them is to get rid of the cause of the stress.  Try to calm yourself with soft music and low lights or nice warm bath.

You can buy over-the-counter medicines that can help alleviate the pain from these headaches.  If you prefer more natural approach, then you can also try some homeopathic remedies.  Sometimes tension headaches can be caused by tense muscles as well so taking a nice hot shower or bath may help alleviate some of the pain.

Additionally, one good way of taming the tension headache is to go for a walk, for thirty minutes to an hour. It need not be brisk; even an amble would do. Avoid noisy areas and those with heavy traffic; noise and fumes tend to aggravate headaches. Walking gets your blood flowing faster, your heart beating stronger, and your lungs pumping more air, all of which have the combined effect of clearing out your system and easing away the headache.
